Academic Probation

ACADEMIC PROBATION
Lowell Catholic High School employs various methods to assist students in achieving success; extra help is available in a variety of forms and students are encouraged to make use of the services provided them.  Early identification of work patterns that result in inadequate progress is meant to help students get back on track and immediate action is taken if progress reports deem it necessary.

Any student who does not receive a passing grade in 5 courses on any of his/her marking term Progress Reports will be placed on Academic Probation until the next Report Card is issued.

Viewed as a temporary condition, academic probation gives a student the opportunity, in conjunction with his parents, teachers, guidance counselor, and the Vice Principal, to reflect on his/her undesirable academic attitude and/or performance.  Probation status should encourage work toward desired goals, a realistic action plan, and conditions that will help the student to achieve academic success.  The student should be able to recognize and assess his/her shortcomings and apply him/herself in order that he/she is diligently working toward their potential.  Each student should regard this probationary period as serious and should see the necessity of working towards its closure.  It is the hope of the school community that no student will maintain such a probationary period for the entire school year.  Such a chronic duration will be cause for administrative review.

Students on Academic Probation must report to Academic Support sessions as assigned. These sessions may be before and/or after school as necessary.
